2012 College and Career Fair Orlando, Florida

Marion County Has Shown Us What They are Really Made Of

Marion County DBI took a group of kids to Orlando to Drop Back In's 2012 College and Career Fair. Our sponsor made sure we had a awesome ride on a chartered bus.

Thanks to Central Florida College for their sponsorship!!

Let me first say this was an event for the ages. The colleges were lined up on the walls from Bethune-Cookman, Florida Christian College and more!! The students were ecstatic!! The students heard from different speakers including the owner, Stuart Berger, program organizer, Charmaine Blue, and DBI Alumni who earned full scholarships at the completion of their high school    diploma. Lunch was provided. The students were then released to network with colleges and vocational schools to understand what they offer and how they can help.

The speakers reminded the students that this day was, "All about Me!" Me? No each student was reminded that their presence demonstrated their desire to really move on to the next phase of their lives. So, throughout the program, students were promoted to say that this day was, "All about me!" Not to promote selfishness, but self awareness.

The speakers really admonished our students to take advantage of the second chance they had to get their first high school diploma. They encouraged the students to take advantage of the educators in the room who support them in their endeavors. The speakers also provided students with information not limited to financial aid, accreditation, college life, military opportunities, and determination. Our really seemed to take those words to heart.

Now a little pride in Marion County DBI. Not only were we the first ones to arrive, we were the first ones to submit the college options paperwork. Our kids were eager and ready to go. Our kids were the most excited about being there during role call. In addition, they were engaged in the activities asking and answering questions during the speeches. Lastly, they were so very polite and respectful, I am quite sure the participants took notice.

Career and College Fair

Hey everyone!!

This month is full of surprises and opportunities. Breast Cancer Awareness, Halloween, FCAT, and many more. The most exciting part of the month is the Career and College Fair in Orlando, Florida!! We are going to get acquainted Florida's colleges and universities to ensure we are exposing our students to the best possible options available to them.

When: October 24, 2012
Where: Orlando, Florida
Who: You!
Why: We want you to be the best you can be!
How: Chartered Bus via CF, awesome!
How much: FREE!!

This experience would be a value to our students as they can see what they are working towards and why all of this is important. In addition, those who have no clue how to start or even what they are interested in, will have a idea of some career avenues. Lastly, students will have an experience understanding etiquette.

It is our desire to see our students as well-rounded lifelong learners who will be productive citizens in the society they live in.

Peace and Productivity,

Marion DBI

Thanksgiving and the Like....

Here we are, another Thanksgiving holiday passed, and another Black Friday survived. We all have plenty to be thankful for. We are thankful for our parents who motivate our students to come to school. We are thankful for our students who want to see an expected end:  their high school diploma. We are thankful for the teachers who work day in and day out to see our students reach their goals. We are thankful for our directors who work tirelessly to support students and staff as they move towards graduation. We are so very thankful for that 5 day break from it all!!!

We know that this time of year can bring joy and tears, but most of all we must stay focused. We must be focused on our students' success. We must be focused on our students' future endeavors. We must be focused on helping them become realistic everyday role models to those around them. We must be focused on the here and now, to properly shape the there and later.

We are asking you to not think about the large gifts and sparkling things, but the future this high school diploma will bring. We want you to focus on the gift that keeps on giving: education. The limits are taken off our students' lives when we give them tools to be successful. Can you help us do that? Will you encourage your student to come to school? Will you give them that extra push? We can take it from there if you just get them in the door! We will push them to be their absolute best!! We cannot do it without your help.

Looking forward to the future,

Marion County DBI
