Marion County Has Shown Us What They are Really Made Of

Thanks to Central Florida College for their sponsorship!!
Let me first say this was an event for the ages. The colleges were lined up on the walls from Bethune-Cookman, Florida Christian College and more!! The students were ecstatic!! The students heard from different speakers including the owner, Stuart Berger, program organizer, Charmaine Blue, and DBI Alumni who earned full scholarships at the completion of their high school diploma. Lunch was provided. The students were then released to network with colleges and vocational schools to understand what they offer and how they can help.
The speakers reminded the students that this day was, "All about Me!" Me? No each student was reminded that their presence demonstrated their desire to really move on to the next phase of their lives. So, throughout the program, students were promoted to say that this day was, "All about me!" Not to promote selfishness, but self awareness.

The speakers really admonished our students to take advantage of the second chance they had to get their first high school diploma. They encouraged the students to take advantage of the educators in the room who support them in their endeavors. The speakers also provided students with information not limited to financial aid, accreditation, college life, military opportunities, and determination. Our really seemed to take those words to heart.
Now a little pride in Marion County DBI. Not only were we the first ones to arrive, we were the first ones to submit the college options paperwork. Our kids were eager and ready to go. Our kids were the most excited about being there during role call. In addition, they were engaged in the activities asking and answering questions during the speeches. Lastly, they were so very polite and respectful, I am quite sure the participants took notice.
